CBSA Introduces New Removal Cost Framework

💳 New Fees Effective April 2025:
👮♂️ Escorted Removals: $12,800 (previously ~$1,500)
🛫 Unescorted Removals: $3,800
Individuals removed at the government’s expense must repay these costs before applying to return to Canada. This legal requirement ensures compliance and reduces taxpayer burden.
Why this steps are taken?
Fair Process:
All removal orders follow due process, including appeals and procedural fairness under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA).
Strengthening Borders:
This change reflects CBSA’s commitment to improving Canada’s immigration system and reinforcing Canada-U.S. border security.
Key Updates for international students in 2025

Flagpoling:
Flagpoling is no longer permitted for PGWP applications.
Spousal Permits:
Spousal open work permits are now restricted to students enrolled in high-demand programs.
Study Permit:
A new study permit is required when transferring to a different Designated Learning Institution (DLI).
Applications for study permits are now fully online.

The Student Direct Stream (SDS) and NES pathways have been discontinued.
All study permit applications will now follow standard processing times.
