๐Ÿšจ Big Updates๐Ÿšจ

1. Removal of LMIA-Based Job Offer Points in Express Entry:

Effective December 17, 2024, Canada will no longer award additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points for job offers supported by an LMIA in the Express Entry system. Previously, candidates could receive 50 or 200 extra points, significantly impacting their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency. This change addresses concerns about LMIA fraud and aims to create a more equitable immigration process.

2. Enhanced Border Security Measures:

In response to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's administration's demands for stricter immigration controls, Canada has pledged to bolster its border security. The plan includes deploying helicopters, drones, surveillance towers, and tracker dogs, alongside a joint task force to combat transnational organized crime. An investment of C$1.3 billion over six years has been allocated, focusing on fentanyl, irregular migration, and organized crime. These measures aim to address U.S. threats of imposing a 25% tariff if Canada fails to control migrant and drug entries.

3. Alberta Initiatives:

Alberta has announced a C$29 million investment to establish a new patrol unit led by sheriffs to monitor its 298-kilometer border with Montana. This initiative includes 51 officers, four drug-sniffing dogs, 10 support staff, four narcotic analyzers, and surveillance drones. A two-kilometer border zone will be created to arrest offenders without a warrant. This action follows President Trump's threats of tariffs unless Canada and Mexico take measures against illegal immigration and drug trafficking.
