Key Highlights:

  • Foreign workers in Yukon with work permits expiring in 2025 can apply for a Yukon-specific work permit (valid for up to 2 years).

  • Must be living & working in Yukon as of May 16, 2024.

  • Work permit must have expired since Jan 1, 2025 or expire before Dec 31, 2025.

Canada Removes PGWP Field of Study Requirement for College Bachelor’s Graduates

Update Effective: March 2025

Key Highlights:

Graduates of college bachelor’s programs are now exempt from the field of study requirements for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).
Previously, only university bachelor’s graduates were exempt — this change now includes college-level bachelor’s degrees as well.

Background:

  • In 2024, new PGWP rules required college graduates to complete programs linked to labour market shortages to be eligible.

  • This rule no longer applies to college bachelor’s degree holders.

Important Notes:

📌 This only applies to college bachelor’s programs.
📌 Graduates of college diplomas, polytechnics, or non-bachelor programs must still meet the field of study criteria.
📌 Graduates with any other university program (not bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate) must still meet the field of study criteria.

Language Requirement Reminder:

  • All PGWP applicants after Nov 1, 2024 must still meet the new language proficiency requirements.
