IRCC releases a list of eligible programs for a 3-year Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)

The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced an updated list of eligible programs for the 3-year Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).

This new list applies to students submitting their applications after November 1, 2024, providing more clarity on the educational pathways that qualify for extended work opportunities in Canada.

If you apply for a study permit on or after November 1, 2024, new eligibility requirements will apply for the PGWP of up to 3 years:

1. For University Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD graduates:

• Language: CLB 7 in English or NCLC 7 in French in all areas.

• Field of Study: All fields are eligible.

If you studied in a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD level program, all fields are eligible for the PGWP.

2. Other university graduates:

• Language: CLB 7 in English or NCLC 7 in French in all areas.

• Field of Study: Must be in an eligible field.

3. College or other program graduates:

• Language: CLB 5 in English or NCLC 5 in French in all areas.

• Field of Study: Must be in an eligible field.

If you studied any other program (not bachelor’s or Master’s) at university or college, you must be in an eligible field to qualify for a PGWP of up to 3 years.

The eligible fields of study are divided into 5 broad categories:

• Healthcare 🩺

• Skilled Trades 🛠️

• Transport 👷‍♂️

• Agriculture and Agri-food 🌾

• STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) 🔬💻

“These changes are not applicable to students who have a study permit or applied before November 1, 2024.”

Proof of language ability

You must provide proof of language ability to meet the language requirements for the PGWP. Acceptable proof of Language.
