Always stay positive and stay informed about what’s happening in immigration. It’s important to know your options in advance—don’t wait for a work permit and then start thinking about how to get PR. By that time, you might miss opportunities that could help you achieve PR, such as taking an additional course, studying for 3 years instead of 2 (which can earn you higher points in your Express Entry profile), or learning skills that could help you secure a job right after your studies so you don’t waste your work permit.
Why wait? Let’s Dive in!

This week’s immigration Draw

How You Can Get PR in 2025-2026
The path to Permanent Residency (PR) in Canada is evolving, and understanding the upcoming trends and changes is crucial. In 2025-2026, the Canadian Experience Class will play a significant role in PR, as the Canadian government plans to convert temporary residents with Canadian experience to permanent residents.
As per the latest Immigration Plan for 2025-2027, Canada aims for over 82,000 PR admissions through the In-Canada Focus stream in the Economic Class. Federal economic priority admissions are set at over 41,700, while PNP admissions are projected to be nearly 55,000, a 50% decrease from over 100,000 in 2024.
Top Options for PR:
Focus on Canadian Experience (TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 occupations): Having Canadian work experience increases your chances of qualifying for PR.
Focus on French Language: If you can learn French, you'll open up many PR options, as bilingualism is highly valued.
Focus on In-Demand Occupations: Pursue careers in sectors like healthcare, trades, or other high-demand occupations based on provincial needs. These fields often offer quicker PR pathways.
Focus on Pilot Programs: If you can secure a job in communities under specific pilot programs like the Atlantic Immigration Pilot, Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot, or Francophone Immigration Programs, you can increase your chances of obtaining PR.
Based on our experience, the In-Canada Focus means candidates with Canadian work experience will be given priority over overseas candidates. If you have or are gaining Canadian experience in TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 occupations, you may have a higher chance of receiving an invitation in Federal General or targeted occupation draws.
If you are working in TEER 4 or 5 occupations, consider looking into PNP programs. Ensure that you meet the eligibility criteria for these programs.
Additionally, keep an eye on Express Entry-aligned PNP streams, such as the Ontario Skilled Trades Stream, Ontario Human Capital Stream, or BC Skills Immigration Stream. These programs regularly invite candidates from the Express Entry pool for PR.
For example, Ontario's Human Capital Priority Stream invited candidates from over 160 occupations in TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 categories in 2024. If you already have one year of Canadian work experience, you should create an Express Entry profile and indicate your interest in living in all province. If a province is interested in your NOC/occupation and you meet their PNP requirements, they will invite you to apply for PR.
Do One Thing…
If you know the occupation you plan to work in or have an idea, make a list of those occupations.
For example:
Machine Operator
Telecommunications Technician
Find NOC code for this occupation, Then, check the 2024 draws for these occupations using our EE/PNP Draw Tracker.
Next, find relevant PR programs using our “Ways to PR” Tracker.
If you qualify for a draw-based PR program, calculate your score to get an idea of where you stand and how you can improve your score for upcoming draws. However, keep in mind that in 2025 and 2026, scores for many draw-based programs are expected to decrease, as there will be no points awarded for LMIA, and candidates with Canadian experience will be given priority in the draws.

NO LMIA Points From Spring 2025

Removal of LMIA-Based Job Offer Points in Express Entry:
Canada will no longer award additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points for job offers supported by an LMIA in the Express Entry system. Previously, candidates could receive 50 or 200 extra points, significantly impacting their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency. This change addresses concerns about LMIA fraud and aims to create a more equitable immigration process.
Key Updates on LMIA Changes
🛑 Prevents Fraud: This change aims to stop people from illegally buying or selling job offers to boost their chances of becoming permanent residents.
📅 Effective Date: The new rule will take effect in spring 2025.
👥 Who Will Be Affected:
Candidates applying for permanent residence through the Express Entry system, including those already working temporarily in Canada.
Not impacted: Candidates who have already received an invitation to apply (ITA) or have ongoing applications.
🔄 Applies to All Candidates: Once implemented, the rule will affect both new and existing candidates in the Express Entry pool with job offers.
📈 Economic Importance: Immigration remains vital for Canada's economic growth, ensuring a steady flow of skilled workers to support key sectors.
⚖️ Fair and Transparent System: These updates aim to keep Canada’s immigration system fair, efficient, and well-managed.
Our Story: Building thecanindian.com
Dear readers,
Tracking different draws and PR pathways can be complex, which is why we started thecanindian.com.
We began developing the platform in May 2024. During May and June, we worked hard to bring our ideas to life. From paper plans to a live website, every step was a challenge. It wasn't easy, as this was our first time working on such an out-of-the-box idea.
When you try something new, it's normal to feel nervous and doubt yourself.
In July and August, we had to pause due to a family emergency. Those months were tough, and we couldn't focus on the platform as much as we had hoped.
But we kept going, step by step. Today, we are proud to share that we have reached 5,000 newsletter subscribers, 3800 followers on Instagram and 20,000 active website users.
We have sent over 100+ emails this year.
The CanIndian community has grown rapidly in the last 2 months alone.
We are excited for 2025 and will continue to do our best to provide helpful information that can assist you in getting PR.
Cheers to growth and new milestones! 🎉
