🔔 Get PR with 6 months of experience in Ontario’s EE

Hi, this is Buddy from TheCanIndian.com. Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend.
We're kicking off this week with some exciting updates and tips to help you navigate your immigration journey.
😃PR with 6 months of experience under Ontario’s Express Entry

Firstly, I want to discuss the recent changes made by the OINP for the Skilled Trades stream and the Human Capital Priorities (HCP) stream. 🛠️📈 Now, to qualify for a targeted draw under these streams, candidates only need at least six months of experience in their primary occupation, down from the previous requirement of one year, similar to the requirements of the Express Entry targeted draws.
Let’s dive deeper into the requirements.
To get invited under Ontario’s Express Entry Skilled Trades stream or Human Capital Priorities stream:
You need to create an Express Entry profile (There is no need to create a separate profile for OINP).
You must choose Ontario or ALL province as your intended province for immigration.
Must have express entry profile in Canadian Experience Class program
English or French Skills
CLB 7 for TEER 0 or 1 occupations
CLB 5 for TEER 2 or 3 occupations
Experience
One year in Canada within the last 3 years in an occupation listed in one or more of the following NOC TEER categories: 0,1,2 or 3
🔨 Ontario’s Express Entry Skilled Trades stream
To be invited under the Skilled Trades Stream, you must meet the requirements of the Canadian Experience Class, as well as the additional criteria mentioned below.
At least one year of cumulative paid full-time work experience (or the equivalent in paid part-time work) in Ontario within Major Groups 72 (excluding occupations under transportation officers), 73, 82, 83, 93 (excluding aircraft assemblers and aircraft assembly inspectors), or Minor Group 6320 (excluding cooks) of the National Occupational Classification (NOC).
If you received a notification of interest as part of a targeted draw, you will need to demonstrate that at least six months of your one year of eligible work experience is in your primary NOC.
You must be living in Ontario and hold a valid work permit at the time you apply.
Have a valid certificate or license (if applicable), depending on your NOC.
🛠️ Experience must be in Ontario.
A total of 81 occupations fall under Ontario’s Express Entry Skilled Trades category (compared to only 10 for the Federal’s EE Trade Occupation category based round). So far, 52 of these occupations have been invited in 3 different OINP’s Express Entry Skilled Trades draws. 🚀🔧

📊 Here is a snapshot for a couple of invited NOCs with how frequently they have been added to draws.

Vs. Express Entry draw for Trade Occupation category
Draw Date | Category | Invitations issued | CRS Score |
---|---|---|---|
July 4, 2024 | Trade occupations | 1800 | 436 |
The chances of being invited in Ontario’s Express Entry Skilled Trades draw are higher due to the lower score requirement compared to the federal Express Entry Trade Occupation category draw. Additionally, Ontario's Express Entry for Skilled Trades invited 6,412 candidates in 3 different draws. Also, Ontario has also invited profiles with experience in approximately 52 Skilled trade occupations across all three draws combined.

Let’s understand with an example how someone can benefit from these changes:
Assuming they meet the general requirements of the draws
If you work in a Federal Express Entry targeted trade occupation, you'll qualify for both the Express Entry Skilled Trades draws and Ontario’s Express Entry Skilled Trades draws. No need to worry—just wait for a draw that matches your score to get invited.
If someone is working in an occupation that is not part of the Federal’s EE Targeted Occupation list, such as Machinist (NOC 72100) or Printing Press Operator (NOC 73401), they won’t qualify for the Federal Express Entry Trade Occupation category. However, they can still qualify for Ontario's EE Skilled Trades stream.
In Ontario's Express Entry Skilled Trades draws, NOC 72100 has been invited three times, while NOC 73401 has not been selected in any draw.
If someone has six months or more experience as a Printing Press Operator (NOC 73401), they can improve their chances of receiving an invitation by gaining an additional six months of experience in an NOC that has been invited in any of Ontario's draws or is part of the Federal Targeted Trade occupations. (If you want the guide, please say "yes" to the above poll.)
📈 Ontario’s Express Entry Human Capital Priority stream
To receive an invitation with six months of experience in a targeted draw under this stream, you must have an Express Entry profile under the Canadian Experience Class program, as well as meet the additional criteria mentioned below.
have at least one year of work experience (or the equivalent in paid part-time work) in Canada in TEER Category 0, 1, 2 or 3 of the NOC
if you received a notification of interest as part of a targeted draw, you must demonstrate that at least six months of your one year of eligible work experience is in your primary NOC
Your work experience must have been:
obtained within the last three years from the date of submitting your application to the OINP
in one or more of the occupations that you identified in your Express Entry profile
in Canada while maintaining legal status in Canada
Education: You must have a Canadian bachelor’s, master’s or PhD degree or its equivalent in another country.
Language: English or French at a CLB level 7 or higher.
📊 In 2024, Ontario’s Express Entry Human Capital Priority Stream invited a total of 10,038 candidates across six draws. They primarily targeted two categories: health and tech. While there is no specific list of targeted occupations, they invited 15 tech occupations in the tech-targeted draws and 43 in the health-targeted draws.
🩺 Notably, the Express Entry system only considers 35 occupations under the health category.
For example, NOC 32111 (Dental Hygienists and Dental Therapists) is not eligible under Express Entry but was invited in Ontario’s Express Entry health-targeted draw.
Similarly, NOC 22221 (User Support Technicians) is invited twice under Ontario’s Express Entry human capital tech-targeted draw, but it’s not part of the STEM category in Express Entry.

April 11, 2024 | STEM occupations | 4,500 | 491 |
February 14, 2024 | Healthcare occupations | 3,500 | 422 |
Let’s understand with an example how someone can benefit from these changes:
Assuming they meet the general requirements of the draws
A friend of mine was working as a Department Manager at Walmart (NOC 60020 – Retail and Wholesale Trade Managers) and is now employed as a Call Centre Agent - Technical Support (NOC 22221 - User Support Technicians). Previously, as a manager, he was only eligible for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) or general draws.
However, with his current role, he is now eligible for CEC, general draws, and Ontario’s Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream targeted tech draw. With a score close to 480 after one year of experience, he expects to be invited in the tech draw once he completes six months in primary occupation as a Call Centre Agent - Technical Support (NOC 22221)
